Visions of Sugarplums...

Do baby Santa suits EVER go out of style? These photos of my younger sister and I just crack me up! I am 18 months old and I look a little dazed by the whole Christmas experience!
I do remember the silver tinsel that my grandma and my mom loved to hang on the tree.  When we were a little older we liked to walk around on the carpet shocking each other.
I guess we were just electrified by the Christmas spirit!

I hope we have some more comments about favorite childhood holiday memories. I will draw the names for the ATC goodie packages Tuesday evening December 23rd.  I have really enjoyed reading about the different traditions and special memories that made  lasting impressions.  My family always enjoyed singing Christmas carols together.  I learned many Christmas songs in school and sang in holiday concerts.  I have my students perform a gingerbread themed show every December and I teach them several holiday songs.  They absolutely love it and want to practice all the time.   Unfortunately many classrooms are not allowed to sing with children at all! So we need to take the time to teach our children and grandchildren the songs we love or they will not be passed on.  I  even force my teenage son to listen to the radio station that plays Christmas songs all month long whenever he's in the car with me! Hahahaha( Can you hear my evil little laugh?) Well I think that preserving a treasured tradition is well worth a little 14 year-old eye-rolling don't you?

Definitely tradition is worth an "eye roll" from a teenager. I love family traditions! We have always made it a tradition to get the kids a new ornament for Christmas, but this year we will be making "home made" ornaments. It will become a new tradition this year!

lol....just try to even STOP maddy from learning a new song...lol...maddy and xander just had their Christmas concert at school...and one of the "relatives" sitting behind us made the comment "wow...they even sing religious songs here in a public school!"...she was visiting from out of state...oh yes...the ole "eye roll" or the "drop me off 2 blocks from the door.."..but my hubby would always say...but that means i'd have to TURN THE RADIO WAY UP!!

how sweet, LOVE these photos!! Those santa suits on you two are so ADORABLE!!
The tradition I remember most was my Grandma Hall's game...Christmas Eve gift. The first person to tell her "Christmas Eve Gift" on Christmas eve each year got a gift...it might have been a roll of life savers, or roll or pennies or even a box of cookies...always something simple...but always came with a hug from her and her saying "you are my gift". As we got older the gift went away and it became calling on the phone and just fun to be first. Grandma and my Dad have been called home...but I tried to keep the game going...but have to agree with my sister that Caller ID has ruined it a bit. LOL

Oh the Santa suits are SO cute! I just bought a collage sheet with something similar! You can make your own cards! :)

We have quite a few traditions..the one going on the longest...taking turns picking a little handmade felt ornament to put on the Advent Wreath. The whole set was made by my Mom and it's been in service going on 25 years!

We all have handmade felt stockings with tiny sequins and beads on them with our names and birth years and jingle bells aat the toes made by my greataunt before she lost her sight. My Mom continued the tradition with all of our husbands, wives, and children but then stopped when great-grandchildern came into the picture, so I have taken it over for mine and made for all five of my grands and a great nephew and great niece so far. They are so pretty and they last forever if you don't let them play with them. We also always got together after mass on Christmas eve and sang Christmas songs until way later than we should have and everyone so enjoyed it but we haven't doen that for several years now. THose photos are great!!! We don't have too many traditions here... Christmas day, we have snack type food all day instead of a "sit down" meal. Makes it easier for me and everyone gets to just relax.

Really enjoyed this post and the pics!!!

My dad would stop on his way home from work and buy a tree, carry it around to the back door, knock on the door and run away leaving me to think that Santa himself delivered our tree every year. I also remember baking for days with my Grandma Wanda until we had filled up about 20 shirt boxes with cookies for her friends and family.

I love these pictures of you! And your journal pages are just delightful! :) I'm making it my new years resolution to start a journal, so I should be able to participate next year!

I have two favorite holiday memories. One is the "Ralph The Red Nosed Reindeer" my dad made out of chicken wire and pine branches. He was trying to make rudolph, but it came out so fat he started calling it Ralph! He would set that up by the tree in the yard, decorate the tree and then put little presents (candy, small toys, etc) under it for the neighborhood kids.

My other favorite tradion is having a paper ball fight with the wrapping paper after opening presents! My oldest brother started that one a few years before our dad passed away and it was a blast - more fun than opening the presents! For my dad's very last Christmas (we knew and threw a special party for him)we all threw paper balls at him and he laughed so hard! A silly thing, but one of my favorite traditions by far!
